Software Development Engineer in Test 2
Closing Date: Jul. 08, 2010
| Employer: | Microsoft |
| Job Location: |
Salt Lake City - Salt Lake County |
| Employment Type: | Full Time |
Description: | Software Design Engineers in Test (SDETs) are not “testers” per the definition used at many other companies. SDETs are not responsible for running manual tests and reporting bugs to developers.
Rather, SDETs are developers. They lead the architecture, design and implementation of our test infrastructure, automation of product code and product quality. They are an intricate part of the development process, working and coding side by side with architects and software design engineers through the entire product lifecycle. Our SDETs write as much (or more) code as our product developers. SDET designs are as complex and challenging as product designs. Automation code is held to the same quality bar as product code. SDET’s peers are software developers and program managers. Together, they work as a team to get your products delivered on schedule and with quality. As an SDET, we are looking to you to be a leader, making those around you successful through example and direct mentorship.
As a Software Development Engineer in Test you will design and write automation software, design and deploy a complex test lab and work with customers to improve the quality of products we will build in the areas of client management and desktop virtualization. In addition, you’ll drive testability and quality into the division’s architectures and designs, deploy our beta products into production at Microsoft and customer sites and establish and enforce engineering standards across the organization.
Working on MDOP provides you the opportunity to rapidly innovate and deliver products, while having the backing of Microsoft and its engineering community. As a business, MDOP is focused on solving problems for IT Pros and making Windows better in the enterprise. We are always evaluating new ideas that can be new MDOP offerings. You will need to possess a holistic perspective that sees the end to end picture of how customers use your technology.
Position Requirements:
• Excellent coding skills in C++ and/or C#
• .Net framework skills are strongly desired
• Strong debugging skills
• Understanding of Virtualization concepts and technologies a plus
• Experience building IT enterprise products a plus
• At least 3-5 years software development experience
• Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related
• Ability to work well in a cross-discipline team environment
