Reporting to the Manager of Discovery Biology, this position is responsible for providing data collection (external and internal), data management and analysis at the Salt Lake laboratory, collaborating with scientists in a collegial work environment. The job requires excellent communication, multi-tasking, problem solving, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Duties: |
| • Evaluate, analyze and integrate a vast array of internal biological datasets to support drug discovery programs
• Manage high-throughput biological data generated by cell biologists;create searchable databases
• Collect, evaluate and incorporate data from external, public sources into internal, searchable databases
• Assist cell biologists with evaluation activities including development of surveys/tools, data collection and analysis
• Interpret results from external databases such as Pfam-HMM and GenBank-NR protein databases
• Write scripts and design high throughput strategies to troubleshoot annotation and analyze different data-types, such as repeats, segmental duplications, genome rearrangements, protein families, etc.
• Work with laboratory personnel to understand lab processes and projects
• Explore novel data representation modes with an emphasis on integrating diverse data types
• Help develop toolsets and bioinformatics applications that embed analysis methodologies to be published and distributed internally
• Conceive, implement and test statistical models; work with cell biologists to translate models into testable experiments; analyze data from experiments

Qualifications: |
| • B.S. or M.S. in biological sciences, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science, or related fields; B.S. with 2-3 years experience and M.S. with 1-2 years experience
• Knowledge of genomic data, high throughput genomic technologies, cancer-related pathways and molecular interaction networks
• Familiarity with biological laboratory techniques and exposure to different types of biological, technical and bioinformatics methods
• Ability to collect, evaluate and incorporate data from external, public sources into internal databases
• Strong statistical proficiency (applied to evaluation of biological data)
• Experience in relational database and SQL skills
• Experience in software development such as Java/Python/Perl
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and document extensive amounts of biological processes
• Strong Biology/Molecular Biology/Microbiology experience
• Innovative, analytical thinker with strong communication skills; works well as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Strong interest in contributing to new oncology treatments and experience in small molecule drug discovery are highly desired
