Ancestry is looking for a Manager, Communications to join our team. This position will report to Lauren Danis, VP of Communications and will be based in our San Francisco office.
What You Will DoDevelop and execute strategic, high-profile, proactive communications programs to support Ancestry’s business priorities and secure earned media coverage of Ancestry’s unique product and technology innovationWork closely with Ancestry’s product, technology, AncestryDNA, digitized records, legal and marketing teams to generate key messaging for news opportunities and story narrativesForge and nurture trusted, personal relationships with influential U.S. consumer technology journalistsSimplify complex ideas into understandable and conversational language for press and social mediaCreate and execute an annual speakers bureau and targeted communications plan to support Ancestry’s Chief Product Officer, SVP of AncestryDNA and other key product, technology and data science team leadsCollaborate with the International communications team to drive consistent product and technology messaging in local market outreachDevelop a range of communications materials including blog posts, FAQs, press statements and interview briefing materials Keep a pulse on relevant news cycles, consumer technology trends to ensure we’re inserting Ancestry’s innovation narrative in targeted, culturally relevant media opportunitiesCollaborate with communications external agency teams on integrated programs
Who You Are5-7 years of consumer technology product/ platform communications experienceExceptional written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills that are clear, concise and direct; must have keen attention to detailHas established relationships with consumer technology media and opinion leaders in the U.S., but also has a global mindset Journalistic instincts and skills in uncovering and developing storiesExperience in crafting communications strategies into relevant, timely and engaging story narrativesGeneral understanding of social media, digital platforms and influencer marketingUnique balance between analytical skills and creativityDemonstration of strong leadership, influence and project management skillsExperience working with and interpreting consumer insight and researchA high level of intellectual agility and capacity for original thoughts Proactive, energetic, self-starterProven ability to collaborate cross-functionally, within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environmentAbility to thrive in an ambiguous environment
