You belong at Ancestry.Our Senior Director of Product, Search, Personalization, and Recommendations develops and oversees the product strategy, roadmap and execution of Ancestry’s search, data products, and personalization strategy. This is the beating heart of Ancestry’s Family History products. With a team of 5 product managers, you work closely with the data science, search and recommendations engineering teams to develop and optimize the most delightful and relevant search and personalized content discovery experience for our customers. You'll define metrics, lead the development of new algorithms, and build interfaces that highlight the best content that Ancestry has to offer customers. Ultimately your goal will be to ensure each time an Ancestry customer visits, they find compelling new content and learnings, relevant to their family stories and history.
This position can be based in either our San Francisco, CA or our Lehi, UT (corporate headquarters offices).
What you will do:
You will lead a team of PMs in defining the strategy and vision of our search, personalization and recommendation services, converting that strategy to a roadmap, then delivering it. You’ll be responsible for the home page, product manage our end-to end search and recommendations experiences, and partner with teams across the experience to ensure the entire experience is personalized to each user’s needs.You will tackle challenging, complex problems that play a central role in how customers find, search, navigate and receive recommendations to create an industry leading research experience. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders from engineering and core experience teams to provide customers the right product, at the right time. You will partner with experts in personalization, machine learning, and ranking across Engineering, Data Science, and Design to define innovative approaches to solve real business challenges leveraging the power of Data, AI and ML.In partnership with your colleagues, you’ll transform your strategy into a product that scales globally. This involves considering local customer needs, cultural nuance, and competitive environments to help our business grow and retain our loyal customer base
Who you are:
Minimum 10+ years of experience delivering highly successful and innovative consumer Internet or mobile data products coupled with a minimum of 5+ years of product leadership experience including hiring, managing, and developing product management teams.You have a proven track record of building algorithm based products at scale (serving millions of customers) through strong partnerships with engineering.Search, Personalization and/or Rankings Systems are among products you have successfully delivered and iteratively improved, utilizing machine learning to develop world class products.Passionate, creative customer problem solver using a combination of data and customer insights, while achieving business outcomes. You are known for delivering elegant solutions for true user problems.A high bar across the board - for your own contributions, for the people you work with, and for the products you work on. You are data driven to the point of pulling the data you need to inform your decisions. Experience working with experimentation to assess the effectiveness of feature and algorithmic updates coupled with great design instincts.Last but not least, you thrive in a collaborative environment and define personal success by the efficacy of your team, the regard of your colleagues, and the delight of our customers!
