Ancestry is looking for a Principal Engineer to join our Commerce Platform team! The Commerce Platform team oversees all website and back-end functionality related to taking customer orders and renewing subscriptions. The systems that belong to the Commerce Platform are business important, and we are investing in the evolution of our platform.

The OpportunityIn this role, you will be a key contributor in designing and implementing the Commerce Platform services. You will report to the Sr. Director of Product & Engineering (eCommerce) and will have the opportunity to impact the bottom-line of the business by leveraging AWS and Java-based technologies to develop new solutions and enhance existing platform services.

What you will do

Develop systems and services that scale in the cloudSolve business-critical problems associated with the quarterly deliverables of the eCommerce organizationWork across the multiple eCommerce engineering teams and determine engineering standardsPartner with other Principal Engineers and the eCommerce Architect to determine the future architecture of the eCommerce platform.Write code and unit tests, document insights, conduct code reviewsProvide guidance and mentorship to a team of software engineers implementing the services. Be an example of engineering excellence.Identify opportunities to adopt creative technologiesPartner with product and engineering managers to lead the engineering teams

Qualifications

9+ years of software development experienceAWS desirableSolid proficiency in a modern programming language (Java).Solid design and architectural skillsExperience with design and implementation of distributed applications, APIs or frameworksExperience with CI/CDUsing agile or other rapid application development methodsPeople skillsBachelor's in CS or EE required
