For this position, we are open to a level 1 or 2 Managed Care Data Analyst WITH STRONG SQL REPORTING experience. The requirements for each level individually are listed below...with experience in medical claims data being preferred.

This position is primarily remote, with potential/occasional on-site work (need to be local to SLC and surrounding area).

This position is responsible for overseeing the collection, compilation, and input of data; analyzing and summarizing data; the development and/or preparation of reports; validation of reports to ensure accuracy and completeness of data; and for presenting findings and/or recommendations to Health Plans leadership, as well as internal and external customers. This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

  • Oversees the collection and organization of data that is entered into databases.

  • Ensures the accuracy of data, analyzes conflicting data, and verifies and collects missing information.

  • Utilizes computer programs and software to analyze and determine trends and changes in data.

  • Develops and presents recommendations for a course of action based on the analysis of data.

  • Works with end users to determine business needs, develops and provides timely and accurate reports to management and internal/external customers as required.

  • Handles special projects and creates special reports as needed.

  • Makes suggestions for process improvements and supports their implementation.

  • Develops a thorough understanding of data sources used within the department, including how the data is obtained/stored, appropriate use of data from different information sources, complexities involved with certain types of data, and how to validate different types of data.

  • May serve as the subject matter expert of the department in analytical disciplines such as managed care analytics, provider profiling, and disease management, or in the utilization of specific programs or software.

  • May provide guidance to more junior staff.

  • May train staff.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to determine the type and nature of analysis to be used to obtain the desired information or results including data to be collected, analysis methods, presentation, and format and report structure.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects, determine the best course of action or appropriate resources needed to complete a project or address a problem, and obtain valid data and create clear and understandable reports that reflect the data being sought.

  • Ability to work well alone or in a team setting.

  • Must be a self starter / self motivated.

  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, including ability to present information to a variety of audiences with differing knowledge levels.


Qualifications Level 2 Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or the equivalency.

  • THREE years of direct experience in collecting, organizing, validating and analyzing data, and in the development and presentation of clear and concise reports.

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel (VBA programming, pivot tables, charts, advanced formulas) and/or Microsoft Access.

  • Previous experience in the development of SQL queries and stored procedures in Oracle/MS SQL or other mainstream database.

Level 1 Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or the equivalency.

  • ONE year of direct experience in collecting, organizing, validating and analyzing data, and in the development and presentation of clear and concise reports.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel pivot tables, charts, advanced formulas and/or Microsoft Access.

Qualifications (Preferred)


  • Experience in health care (claims data), particularly reporting and analysis of claims data, and working knowledge of the health care industry, such as CPT/HCPCS, DRG and revenue codes and basic medical terminology.

  • Experience with business intelligence software such as R, Tableau, Power BI, or Business Objects.

  • Experience in the development of specialized reports, such as provider profiling and/or disease management reports.
