As the **TAS Migration Enablement program**,our overarching goal is to help Tanzu Application Service (TAS) customers and open-source Cloud Foundry users transition smoothly to Kubernetes over the next few years. In this role,you will be responsible for ensuring success,coordination,and technical solutions to support our customers in their journey to Kubernetes. You will work closely with product,design,and engineering to help build the roadmap and collaborate with not only existing product teams but also the cutting edge.
**What type of work will you be doing? What assignments,requirements,or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?**
We are looking for a **Staff I Technical Lead** . In this role you will:
+ Define the technical vision for the program which will include the delivery of several distinct migration solutions for our customers,as well as continued collaboration with the CF open-source community.
+ Conduct research and develop proof-of-concepts to help scope possible technical solutions,perform analysis and synthesize results,and help drive recommendations to delivery.
+ Collaborate extensively across roles and organizational boundaries to deliver valuable outcomes to our customers. This includes both representing the technical architecture to outside stakeholders as well as ensuring our products integrate with the rest of our Tanzu portfolio.
+ Upleveling the engineering team with your understanding of technical quality and distributed systems.
**Success in the role: What are the top priorities for your first 6-12 months in this role?**
We expect our Tech Lead to prioritize the following three areas:
+ **Embarking on technical exploration and proto-typing** to help inform the product direction.
+ **Working closely with the rest of the leadership team** to build out the roadmap,owning technical scoping around cost and complexity of potential solutions.
+ **Ramping up on our vision for migration** and joining the effort,including participation in conversations across the larger organization (Developer Application Platform or DAP).

**What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?**
This role is for the TAS Migration Enablement program within the larger Developer Application Platform pillar in MAPBU. The hiring manager of this role is Angela Chin,Engineering Lead of the program. You'll be working frequently with the product lead,design lead,engineering managers,and report up through Angela.
Our program has 9 engineers at the moment,and is continuing to grow over the next few months. We have folks based across the West Coast,and we will continue to value high-quality remote collaboration even once COVID-19 precautions have relaxed.

Based on the open source Cloud Foundry project,VMware Tanzu Application Service (or TAS) is a $500 million revenue-generating cloud platform that enables application developers to build and run their applications quickly,easily,and repeatably. It manages containerization,traffic routing,logging,metrics,and build workflows,so that engineers can focus on what matters most to them -- solving problems for their customers.
VMware Tanzu is also heavily investing in providing strong developer and operator outcomes on top of Kubernetes through projects like Tanzu Build Service,based on kpack,and Cloud Native Runtimes for Tanzu,which builds on top of open source Knative. Our program will enable our strong TAS customer base to interoperate with our Kubernetes-based products and continue to build a strong story with our Tanzu portfolio.
