Job Description

We are expanding our product team! Cotopaxi needs am optimistic,curious,and driven material developer who loves making great gear,paving new ground,and impacting humanity in positive ways. Areas for emphasis include apparel,accessories,and packs. The right material developer will be a passionate problem solver,a maker,and a doer. We need someone who will take ownership of difficult problems. This person will work closely with the product design team,product developers,merchandising team,planning team,and marketing team. This person will be responsible for managing the development process for all materials and trims cross category by collaborating closely with Product Development Team,Category Manager,Designer,factory,and mill partners to ensure that design integrity,quality,and target price are met/maintained and that products are developed within established timelines. This person must work to remain true to the creative directions of Design,while maintaining the highest quality standards for material development. This person will also balance the needs of Design,Development,Merchandising,and Production. Responsibilities : + Lead the material development process and team for all product categories under the scope of materials and trims + Collaborate with Designers to understand design intent and pick fabrics and trims that meet the needs of design,quality,and cost. + Partner with Product Management and Design teams to strategically develop or source new materials and trims to support business needs,including long-range and speed to market opportunities. + Collaborate with cross functional team to ensure that all materials developments meet or exceed financial targets and corporate calendar deadlines. + Guide and maintain the fabric library,materials database,and materials supplier matrix. + Create a toolbox of key materials that maximize efficiencies and profit across categories. + Evaluate emerging material trends and technology across multiple industries + Forge mutually positive relationships with raw materials suppliers globally while developing and maintaining existing relationships through ongoing communications. + Lead negotiations on material cost,lead times,and MOQ. + Manage brand performance standards for all materials,including field and lab validation. + Coordinate material orders for prototypes and partner with product team on field testing results. + Partner with the planning team to coordinate SMS yardage and greige planning. + Own and track the lab dip process from hand off to approval with mills + Create strong cross-functional team interaction with apparel Creation team members,operations,and manufacturers to ensure a coordinated and efficient process + Set up process and standards for materials testing + Lead,mentor,and grow a team of material developers Requirements: + Bachelor's degree in Textiles,Apparel Development,or Design + 7-10 years' work experience in material development is required + Ability to build and implement new processes and achieve cross functional buy in + Comprehensive knowledge of materials testing and ability to set up standards and process + Possess strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure,meet strict timelines in adherence to product calendar,and manage multiple tasks simultaneously + Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to deal with various levels of management and employees within the organization as well as vendors and worldwide personnel + Proficient in Microsoft Office,Adobe Illustrator,and Photoshop + Experience in PLM software + International and domestic travel may be required to visit suppliers + Ability to present ideas clearly and visually to non-English speakers and team members not related to product development + High tolerance for ambiguity and initiative to drive timely resolutions. + Must be able to receive all,consider all,and implement feedback from team members,manufacturing partners,consumers,and field testers + Knowledge and passion for sustainable material practices About Cotopaxi: At Cotopaxi,we create innovative outdoor products and experiences that help alleviate poverty,move people to do good,and inspire adventure.
