Job Summary:   The Software Product Test Group is responsible for testing Campbell Scientific software products and validating product performance and quality. The role of a Software Product Test Engineer is to find and report software product issues and refine the test process. Campbell Scientific software product run-time environments currently include desktop, mobile, and virtual (cloud-based).   Essential Functions:  
  • Create and maintain a strong culture in accordance with Campbell Scientific’s core ARCTIC values -- Accountability, Respect, Client-Centric, Teamwork, Innovation, Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in software product design reviews by providing input on requirements, design, and testability
  • Document and execute test plans
  • Develop manual and automated tests
  • Analyze defects discovered during testing and reported by customers
  • Document and report test results
  • Collaborate with software product development teams
  • Track defects to resolution and be the customer advocate
  • Validate defect fixes
  • Maintain test equipment and software
  • Develop best practices and improve testing procedures to insure software product performance, reliability, scalability, and overall quality
  • Support the technical writing staff for the creation of user manuals, application notes, case studies, and educational materials
  Required Skills & Experience   Technical
  • Ability to identify user experience failures and provide solutions to improve the user experience
  • Ability to ensure the software created or modified is fit for purpose and meets product objectives
  • Working knowledge of computer programming and scripting languages
  • Knowledge of the software testing processes and the software testing lifecycle
  • Experience using test automation software
  • Experience using bug tracking systems
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment
  • Computer and associated software skills, including Microsoft 365 (Teams, Word, Excel…)
  Preferred Education & Training
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or related field
  • Experience testing mobile, desktop, and virtual (cloud-based) applications
  • Experience with internet communication protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, HTTPS, WebSockets, FTP, SMTP, MQTT, and other internet protocols
  • Experience with web browser developer tools (F12)
  • Experience with computer programming and/or scripting languages such as JavaScript, Python, PHP, AutoIT, or Visual Basic
  • Proficient with test automation software such as TestComplete, Selenium, PyTest, or other test automation software
  • Proficient with JIRA issue and project tracking software
  • Proficient with the Scrum and Kanban frameworks of an Agile software development environment
  • A love for problem solving, especially when seeking solutions that do not come easily
  • Work well in a team environment—freely exchange ideas, graciously provide, and accept aid, and take on tasks assigned by team members and supervisors
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to set daily goals that are in line with the group’s long-term goals
  Work environment: Typical office environment with computer workstation. Occasional travel required, typically the equivalent of two or less weeks per year, including industry conferences and customer visits.   Physical requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over short distances as needed. Sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, and other movement consistent with office environments.   Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.
